![]() Vintage Ski PrintsI'm very fond of Vintage Ski Prints! Probably because I love skiing - I really enjoy the history of Vintage Prints with a ski theme. Ski Prints don't date back that far compared to many other Vintage Prints. Generally it is very unusual to find anything earlier than about 1920 - as this was the time that skiing began to be popular with the more wealthy Europeans, although at that time there were only half a dozen Alpine Resorts. Vintage Ski Prints: ![]() One of the most interesting and early ski prints that I've seen is this one here of a Suffragette, ski jumping off a mountain holding a flag saying "Votes for Women" - so of course it is very interesting for all kinds of reasons, it is actually a political cartoon from the early 1900's and is in fact very rare. Cartoons such as this one are hard to come by which makes it all the better when you find them of course!! Both the British and the French were very keen in the early days of the sport, of course the French have the Alps going through their country so they had an advantage - the mountains in Scotland are just not the same! However as a result of this there are a few French Prints to be found especially from the Art Deco period - which I consider to be excellent, they are in color and generally come from Style magazines, generally depicting somewhat frisky or at least cheeky women... ![]() ... which is all great fun. Here is a favorite of mine from the early 1920s depicting a girl running along the snow towing along a cupid on skis! ... not for the first time is a hopeful young man following along down the mountain hoping to meet up at the next mountain hut over a quick schnapps! I especially like the detail of these pictures - love her outfit, bobble hat, gaiters and those matching white mittens ... and then there is cupid holding on somewhat nervously. Often vintage ski prints are used to decorate chalets in resorts as well as looking cool in your own home or office. Wide Selection of Vintage Ski Prints for home or office Other prints of interest are old adverts showing ski fashions and ski equipment, sometimes it astonishes me when I look at the skiers themselves - it can be hard enough even today getting down the mountain with the very latest scientifically designed and lightweight equipment ... yet these guys were going down with walking boots strapped to polished wooden skis and not a gore-tex jacket in sight!!! Items from earlier periods tend to be very rare and are more cross country style than Alpine or Downhill skiing but occasionally you can come across them and they would of course make an interesting addition to any collection.
